PCCE- United Way of Greater Rochester and Finger Lakes VISTA
 
 
 
The Community Schools Coalition of Monroe County, in collaboration with the United Way of Rochester and the Finger Lakes, Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES, and Roberts Wesleyan University, proposes to host an Americorps VISTA member to advance the countywide community schools strategy. The VISTA will play a key role in developing systems that align community resources, enhance cross-sector collaboration, and promote equity in education. Through this partnership, the VISTA will help connect university and community partners, strengthen school-community relationships, and support the implementation of evidence-based practices that improve student outcomes and family well-being.

Member Duties : The VISTA will serve as a backbone member of our Community Schools Coalition. In year 1, this will entail doing an environmental scan of the resources available and missing in our County. Our Congressman, Joe Morelle, has called Monroe County "resource-rich and outcomes poor". We believe the community schools strategy can serve as an organizing force to eliminate obstacles to young people and their families receiving services and supports, and create collective impact through partnership and awareness amongst all family-serving organizations. The Community Schools Coalition of Monroe County was launched in October 2024 and now has over 100 partner organizations. We need a steady hand to administrate the Coalition, documenting resources and training, bringing awareness to our work through digital media, and creating clear lines of communication for our cross-sector members.
