*NC Hunger Corps VISTA 2026

We’re recruiting for AmeriCorps VISTA positions with the NC Hunger Corps—a year-long service program. This project strengthens real, practical support for community members struggling to afford enough food, lacking access to nutritious options, or facing growing barriers to feeding themselves and their families. Hunger isn’t abstract: children, students, workers, families, and neighbors are skipping meals, choosing between groceries and rent, or relying on limited help to get by. Your work will help build programs that make sure people can eat, and that no one is left behind, including the more than 40% of children in North Carolina living in poor or low-income homes. VISTAs serve in person with a higher education organization expanding programs like community gardens, food recovery, food pantries, and fresh produce distribution. They raise awareness about nutrition, recruit and train volunteers, design programs that feed families, and build partnerships that strengthen community resources. They collaborate to create or improve systems to be sustainable—so people don’t have to face hunger alone. We’re seeking applicants who care about fighting poverty, who want to help people access food, support students working multiple jobs just to stay enrolled, and strengthen the basic-needs resources our communities depend on. Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills are invaluable; passion and honesty about the realities of hunger make for especially effective VISTAs. We are currently recruiting for an August start date, with potential later start dates available (each term is one full year). Many placements offer a housing allowance, though securing housing is the responsibility of the VISTA. Contact Christina at cwittstein@ncengage.org for host site details. If you want a meaningful year of service helping strengthen programs that feed families, the Hunger Corps is a powerful place to make a difference.

Member Duties : VISTAs build long-term solutions to hunger within local North Carolina communities. They create or strengthen food pantries, community gardens, food recovery, and fresh produce distribution. VISTAs don’t do direct service, they create systems that help feed families and support people facing food insecurity. Their service may include recruiting and training volunteers, designing new programs, raising awareness about nutrition, building community partnerships, and developing tools and resources that make food security efforts more sustainable. Hunger Corps VISTAs help ensure students, workers, and families can access the food they need while building stronger, more resilient communities.
