AmeriCorps Digital Service Fellows Pre-Apprenticeship
 
 
 
Now in its 23rd year, The AmeriCorps Digital Service Fellows (DSF) is an award-winning Pre-Apprenticeship for recent Philadelphia high school graduates, between the ages of 17-24, who are interested in pursuing a career in Information Technology while serving the community. In this role you will serve as a Tech Mentor in the Digital Literacy classroom. We are seeking motivated, tech-inspired, civic-minded, lifelong learners who enjoy working with elementary and middle school students while serving in a tech-based AmeriCorps program. The Digital Service Fellow is an AmeriCorps position which offers on the job training, industry certifications, stipends and an education scholarship. This role is designed to prepare you for a successful career in Educational Technology. The AmeriCorps DSF program fulfills its mission to empower communities through a combination of technology apprenticeship and direct service. As AmeriCorps Digital Service Fellows learn new technology skills, they pass on these skills to students, teachers, staff and other members of their communities. AmeriCorps DSFs serve in the School District for a full year under the direct mentoring of a Digital Literacy Teacher and learn most of their technology skills on the job. This model is a win-win for AmeriCorps members, teacher and for Philadelphia schools. AmeriCorps DSFs learn the ins and outs of digital literacy skills and technology support; teachers receive daily support in engaging students in the District's Digital Literacy & Technology curriculum. The on-the-job training is supplemented with training toward I.T. industry certifications, which include: * Dell Technician Certification * Apple Certified Macintosh Technician (ACMT) * CompTIA IT Fundamentals and additional certifications * Google Apps for Education Certification To prepare AmeriCorps DSFs for a successful transition into I.T. the program provides soft skills training as well.

Member Duties : The role is split between 80% student support and 20% tech support. Student Support: Fellows inspire students through Computer Science instruction in schools and through after-school tech clubs. This includes providing tech mentorship to small groups on activities like robotics, coding, digital media, and career exploration. Fellows also assist in Digital Literacy classrooms by answering questions, leading small groups, and demonstrating technology. They work to expand tech skill opportunities for students, teachers, and the community. Tech Support: Fellows assist community-based organizations with technical support and help staff and students use Google Suite and Chromebooks/laptops. Members participate in professional development training (no more than 20% of total service hours) and monthly training for soft and technical skills. Fellows will also study to obtain an industry-recognized certification (e.g., Google IT Support, CompTIA Tech+).
