VRLC FT Community Service and Farm Assistant
 
 
 
VRLC places AmeriCorps members in rural VT nonprofits to expand education, support conservation, strengthen food security, and engage communities. This position is based at Maplehill School and Farm in Plainfield, VT, with service across three campuses: the Small Group Program, the Farm Campus, and the Greatwood Campus on the former Goddard College property. Maplehill is “a safe, caring, land-based educational community where relationships inspire learning.” Its mission is to provide real-world educational experiences that build academic, vocational, and social skills while helping youth gain confidence, resilience, and practical life skills. For over 30 years, Maplehill has offered innovative, land-based, individualized programs that prepare students for further education, employment, and independent living. Member Responsibilities: Members help deliver land-based learning that blends academics, farm work, and community service. You’ll assist with classes, lead small group activities, and support individualized learning. Members engage youth in gardening, animal care, food production, and meal preparation, while also guiding service with local partners such as food pantries, senior centers, and environmental groups. You’ll foster a safe, supportive environment where students build confidence, job readiness, and responsibility. Additional duties include helping with events, supporting seasonal activities, and completing AmeriCorps requirements. Minimum Qualifications: - At least 22 years old at the start of service - Personal vehicle, valid license, clean record, and insurance required - High school diploma or equivalent (or commitment to earn one) - U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident - Able to pass the National Service Criminal History Check This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with youth, is adaptable, and values experiential education rooted in sustainability and community.

Member Duties : As an AmeriCorps member at Maplehill School & Farm, you’ll support youth through hands-on education, farm work, and community engagement. You’ll assist with small group and 1:1 learning activities, help lead community service projects, and transport students to service sites, food pantries, and community partners. Working closely with the Farm Manager and Farm to Table Coordinator, you’ll contribute to food access efforts by helping with shopping, meal service, food distribution, and farm tasks such as animal care, gardening, and seasonal projects. You’ll also support initiatives like monthly food drops and Harvest of the Month, while building your own skills through school meetings, trainings, and professional development. Members may also help with events like the Harvest Supper and Graduation, assist with social media outreach, and contribute to disaster response activities when needed. AmeriCorps requirements such as timesheets and paperwork are also part of the role.
