VRLC FT Science Educator

This AmeriCorps position is based at the Fairbanks Museum & Planetarium in St. Johnsbury, VT, a historic institution that has inspired wonder and curiosity since 1891. With a mission to spark lifelong learning and responsibility for the natural world, the Museum continues to serve as a hub for science education in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom. As an AmeriCorps member, you’ll play a key role in delivering engaging, hands-on learning experiences for youth and community members. You’ll collaborate with the Director of Education to plan and teach programs aligned with STEM standards, both in-person and virtually. Members develop and present classes for PreK–8th grade students, lead seasonal field programs, create activities using museum collections, and even learn to use planetarium software and a 3-D printer. In the summer, you’ll help lead one of the Museum’s popular camp programs. Beyond the classroom, you’ll support community events like the Victorian Holiday Open House, Halloween, First Night, and other special programs. You’ll also help host youth camp-ins for groups like Scouts and 4-H, gaining valuable experience in program leadership. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working with young learners, is organized and flexible, and is excited to explore both science and education. Members also complete AmeriCorps service requirements, including timesheets and professional development opportunities. CPR/First Aid training is provided if needed. Serving at the Fairbanks Museum offers a hands-on opportunity to build teaching, communication, and leadership skills while making a lasting impact on rural learners and their communities. Minimum Qualifications: - Must be at least 17 years old - Have a high school diploma or equivalent, or agree to earn one - Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident - Successfully pass the National Service Criminal History Check.
