CMSC: Youth Services Specialist (CMC)

The Community Mediation Service Corps (CMSC) is an AmeriCorps program that partners with Community Dispute Resolution Centers (CDRCs) across New York State to expand access to conflict resolution services and strengthen local capacity. CMSC members are trained in mediation, conflict coaching, restorative practices, and other tools to support peaceful problem-solving in their communities. Members serve in a variety of settings including courts, schools, and community programs, where they may assist with mediation and facilitation, support youth and family-focused programming, conduct outreach, manage data and case intake, or help recruit and engage volunteers. CMSC offers two service paths: a traditional track for full-time and part-time members who complete a robust training and apprenticeship model, and a volunteer track for members serving shorter terms in support roles. All members receive ongoing supervision and professional development and contribute to advancing equity, access, and sustainability in the delivery of conflict resolution services statewide.

Member Duties : Our AmeriCorps members provide crucial support to conflict resolution centers across New York State. At CFS, the Youth Services member supports development and delivery of school-based restorative programs across the 8th Judicial District. They assist with outreach, training coordination, material preparation, and provide facilitation or tech support during sessions. They also manage data and documentation related to grant deliverables. Travel to schools is required and typically done with staff. They also participate in professional development and service initiatives, making a lasting impact on their own skills and the lives of those they serve.
