Able SC Youth Empowerment Support Member
 
 
 
The purpose of this position is to empower youth ages 14-31 who have disabilities to 1) successfully transition to adulthood through classroom activities 2) work with the peer advocate on identified skills that they wish to develop 3) connect youth with community activities that will enhance their community engagement and social ease. Members will be able to assist in a variety of activities that are age appropriate and of interest to the consumer including life skills classes or educational seminars, community trips to other service organizations, community events and recreation, coordinating peer meet up opportunities. The major focus is preparing youth with disabilities for the transition into young adulthood at various stages.

Member Duties : Assist youth with disabilities in reaching and maintaining their highest level of independence through individualized skills training Assist in teaching empowerment and disability pride to youth in individual and group settings Mentor and provide opportunities for growth and leadership Provide information and support to assist clients in achieving stated goals and/or refer the client to appropriate resources Report on successes Assist with developing engaging, age appropriate curriculum for students to prepare them for transition into adulthood
