Outdoor Educator
 
 
 
This position is full-time 1200 hours, 40 hours. The schedule is Mon.-Fri. 8:00 am-4:00 pm. Hours and days may vary. The selected candidate will receive a stipend of $2066.66 per month and a $5,176.50 education award upon successfully completing the term. Nevada Outdoor School inspires exploration of the natural world, responsible stewardship of our habitat, and dedication to community. The main goal of all NOS programs is to influence positive outdoor behavior by providing people with the motivation, knowledge, and skills to practice responsible outdoor recreation. NOS programs strive to deepen participants connection to, understanding of and respect for the natural world. We want Nevadans to be healthy, happy and engaged community members who feel connected to the natural world and choose to explore the outdoors responsibly. Various environmental trainings will be offered to the members including CPR, AED, and First aid training. Outdoor Educators will deliver and assist with the planning and coordination of all of Nevada Outdoor School's educational programs include youth, training, and community programs. Members will facilitate outdoor learning experiences at schools, and lead summer camps and programs for youth of 4 to 17 years old. Assist with formal and informal outdoor training. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds in an outdoor environment. Hike up to 3 miles on uneven terrain and increased elevation. This position will have access to vulnerable populations.

Member Duties : Members will deliver outdoor learning experiences for formal education classrooms on various nature-based topics and outdoor education. Develop and facilitate NOS Nature Clubs. Plan and deliver Summer Camps for youth and adults. Plan and lead community hikes, nature programs and facilitate weekend volunteer stewardship projects with partners. Travel is required at times but always prearranged with some overnights. Report participant numbers to the Programs Coordinator to be entered into the participant database. Assist with development and utilize assessment tools and/or evaluations. Promote Nevada Outdoor School's programs through various forms of media - via media, assist in recruiting volunteers and future AmeriCorps Service members for programs as required, assist in recruiting participants for elective programs, and attend special events. Will attend trainings, seminars/conferences related to service objectives and career development.
