AmeriCorps members with Gateway to the Great Outdoors (GGO) play a key role in bringing hands-on STEAM, wellness, and outdoor learning to Chicago’s Title I schools. Members help deliver lessons, lead field trips, and support curriculum development that connects students with real-world experiences. They also focus on mentor engagement, recruiting and supporting volunteers who serve as role models in classrooms. By creating lesson materials, coordinating activities, and helping new mentors get involved, members ensure students have consistent, positive support. This mix of direct programming and mentor recruitment strengthens GGO’s capacity to reach more students and provide meaningful opportunities for learning and growth.

Member Duties : AmeriCorps members with Gateway to the Great Outdoors (GGO) support programming in Chicago’s Title I schools by working directly with mentors who lead classroom lessons. Members help prepare mentors with curriculum materials, organize supplies, and make sure daily needs for students are in place. They do regular check-ins to ensure mentors feel supported, gather feedback, and help troubleshoot challenges as they come up.
