At GGO we believe every student deserves the chance to explore, discover, and thrive. We partner with Title I schools in Chicago to bring hands on, engaging lessons that combine science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) with the outdoors. Our AmeriCorps members mentor students inside and outside the classroom, leading everything from nature based experiments to field trips, camping, and unique first time experiences many kids would never have otherwise. Serving with GGO means being part of a team that makes learning exciting and meaningful. You will help kids connect with the world around them, build confidence, and discover their potential, while gaining real leadership, teaching, and community engagement experience yourself.

Member Duties : AmeriCorps members with Gateway to the Great Outdoors (GGO) support Chicago students through hands-on STEAM, wellness, and outdoor learning, while also strengthening the organization behind the scenes. A key part of their role is development and fundraising, where members draft grant applications and reports, research new funding opportunities, track donations, write thank-you notes, and help plan and promote fundraising events. They also assist with communications by updating the website, creating social media content, and designing outreach materials. In programming, members mentor students, lead lessons and field trips, and gather stories and feedback to show impact. Their combined efforts ensure that GGO has the resources, visibility, and capacity to provide meaningful opportunities for students in Chicago’s Title I schools.
