NLADA-VISTA Data Systems Analyst, Solano County, CA

The Solano County Public Defender provides excellent and compassionate legal representation to indigent adults and juveniles who are facing a loss of liberty due to criminal charges and civil commitments. We are focused on moving toward a holistic defense model which seeks to represent the whole person rather than just providing a legal defense to their criminal case. By connecting our clients with additional services, we can help reduce recidivism and help our clients be successful. Clients who are accepted into Mental Health Diversion (MHD) receive support in accessing services to address their needs. When they successfully complete the program, their cases are dismissed. The goal of our VISTA project is to more fully utilize the capabilities of our case management system, and improve the tracking of our Mental Health Diversion program, including 1) which clients are being evaluated for MHD by their attorneys, (2) when are MHD petitions filed, (3) are MHD petitions granted or denied, (4) are MHD motions receiving equal treatment by all judges who review them, (5) which clients successfully complete MHD, and (6) to review each step for disparities.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will be responsible for reviewing our CMS to ensure we are tracking the data necessary to provide analysis regarding potential disparities in the Mental Health Diversion program. The VISTA member will ensure that we are collecting the correct data, ensuring all data is entered accurately into our system, determine if there are ways to automate some or all of the data collection, identify methods to remind staff to update incomplete entries, etc. The VISTA member will, with approval of and in conjunction with Solano County Dept of IT and our CMS governance committee, recommend modifications to our CMS to improve the quality and quantity of data related to MHD in the system and to enable reporting on relevant information. In addition, the VISTA member will automate reporting on the data.
