Third Act: A Purposeful Retirement - Digital Literacy

Third Act: A Purposeful Retirement is a dynamic AmeriCorps program at the Center for Modern Aging Princeton (CMAP) that empowers older adults to live with purpose, connection, and dignity. It directly addresses the critical issue of social isolation among older adults—an issue that profoundly affects health, well-being, and quality of life. AmeriCorps members serve as vital connectors, helping older adults build relationships, strengthen digital skills, engage across generations, and reenter community life with meaning and support. Key Program Components: • Older Adult Volunteer Corps: Members recruit and support older adults as community volunteers in schools, hospitals, nonprofits, and other public-serving spaces. The Corps fosters purpose, self-worth, and new friendships. • Digital Literacy Training Program: Members lead digital learning at CMAP’s Technology Learning Center (TLC) and partner sites, helping older adults use tablets, email, video calls, and online tools—bridging the digital divide and enabling connection. • GrandPals Intergenerational Program: Through weekly sessions, members connect older adults with elementary school students for shared reading and storytelling—fostering respect, learning, and joyful companionship across generations. • CMAP Socialization Programs: Members support a wide array of social opportunities including classes, fitness, caregiver groups, cultural outings, and arts events, ensuring inclusive and meaningful engagement for all older adults. As a Third Act AmeriCorps member, you’ll gain hands-on experience in community building, intergenerational connection, and digital education—while helping ensure that no one ages alone.
