Next Step Adviser - Duke Unviersity
 
 
 
Next Step NC, within Duke Community Affairs (DCA), places recent college graduates as AmeriCorps Next Step Advisers (“advisers”) in high schools across 9 counties in North Carolina. These advisers work in collaboration with school counselors, teachers and administrators to increase college-going rates in the schools they serve. Advisers provide admissions and financial aid advising to students and their families through one-on-one and group sessions that help students identify colleges that will serve their interests and abilities; complete their admissions and financial aid applications; and enroll successfully at the schools they choose to attend. The goal of Next Step NC is to increase the number of students entering and completing postsecondary education. To achieve this goal, Next Step NC seeks to foster strong and mutually rewarding collaborations with the School district, its high schools, and their administrators, faculty, and staff.

Member Duties : Provide one-on-one admission and financial aid advice to any student or family seeking assistance. Organize group events that encourage students at their families to consider, plan for, and apply to colleges and universities. Establish productive working relationships with principals, counselors, and teachers in each assigned high school. Assist in the assessment and long-term sustainability of the program. Maintain expertise in admissions and financial aid advising.
