Rutgers Accelerate & Renew Academy

Rutgers Accelerate & Renew Academy (RARA) is a university-based tutoring initiative that partners with local community centers, youth programs, and schools to support K–12 students, primarily those in grades K–8, in Camden, NJ. AmeriCorps members help students build literacy, math, and social-emotional development skills through high-impact tutoring and mentoring while fostering confidence and growth. Members serve in after-school settings, delivering one-on-one and small-group instruction tailored to students ' needs. Tutors are trained in culturally responsive practices, trauma-informed care, and youth development, and receive ongoing coaching and professional development throughout their service. No teaching experience is required; just a passion for equity, education, and service is needed. Whether you’re exploring a career in teaching, counseling, social work, or public service, this role offers hands-on experience, leadership development, and the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with youth and community partners. Members complete 300 service hours over the academic year and earn a Segal Education Award upon successful completion. Join us in expanding opportunity and creating real impact one tutoring session at a time.
