Literacy First K–2 Tutoring Program
 
 
 
About the Role Join the Literacy First K–2 Tutoring Program and help close opportunity gaps for students in Hamilton County Schools. As a three-quarter-time AmeriCorps member, you will deliver one-on-one, daily reading interventions to K–2 students using a nationally recognized early literacy model. You will gain hands-on experience in education while making a lasting impact in your community. Key Responsibilities Provide daily, one-on-one tutoring to K–2 students in foundational reading skills Use structured Literacy First lesson plans that target phonics, fluency, and comprehension Record student progress in Tutor Central and use data to adjust instruction Collaborate with teachers and school RTI leads to support student growth Participate in regular coaching, feedback sessions, and team check-ins Lead data-sharing conversations during mid-year and end-of-year progress reviews Work Schedule & Term Details Schedule: Serve 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, during school hours Lunch: A daily 30-minute lunch break is unpaid and not counted toward service hours School Campuses: Calvin Donaldson, East Side, Hardy, or Spring Creek Elementary School Term Start Date: September 8, 2025 (with a potential second start date in October) End Date: Flexible—members typically complete service by May 2026 (end of school year), but may serve through June 2026 to reach the required 1,200 service hours Who Should Apply We welcome individuals from all backgrounds who are: Passionate about education and literacy Dependable and self-motivated Open to feedback and growth Comfortable working with young children Interested in pursuing a career in education, social impact, or public service Eligibility Requirements To serve, applicants must: Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident Be at least 17 years old Have a high school diploma or equivalent Pass a National Service Criminal History Check

Member Duties : AmeriCorps members will provide daily, one-on-one reading tutoring to K–2 students in four Hamilton County elementary schools. Using Literacy First’s structured, research-based curriculum, members will target foundational reading skills including phonics, fluency, and comprehension. Members will track student progress, collaborate with teachers, and participate in weekly coaching and team meetings. Each member will serve approximately 20 students during the school year and help close early literacy gaps by providing consistent, individualized support. Members will also contribute to data-sharing conversations and gain professional experience in education and youth development.
