Greater Richmond Fit4Kids is a non-profit organization created to improve the health and wellness of children by increasing physical activity and promoting healthy eating. Fit4Kids AmeriCorps program is an educational opportunity for candidates who have an appetite for hands-on garden fun and physical activity lessons! There will be significant professional development for members. Our 15 AmeriCorps (3/4 time) members who will lead nutrition education and physical activity opportunities and encouragement at Fit4Kids programs in Richmond, Henrico, Chesterfield, and Petersburg. These programs include school and community garden education, Learn to Ride bike program, ‘Game on, Girl!’ after school sessions, recess coaching, nutrition education, and Fit4Kids community engagement activities. You will lead students in a variety of activities by helping them build healthy habits for life. This is a terrific opportunity for someone who loves the outdoors and education and is looking for an exciting year of learning and growth. This is a 9.5 month commitment from early September 2025 to early-summer 2026: The Member will complete a minimum of 1200 hours of service during this 9.5 month period. The living allowance will be distributed semi monthly by direct deposit and the total allowance for the 1200 hour position is $16,500. AmeriCorps members are typically eligible for SNAP benefits. Members will work roughly 32-25 hours per week during the school year with a two week break at the end of the calendar year and time off for Thanksgiving and Spring Break. Members are also eligible to receive a $1000 retention bonus at the end of the service year and an Education Award of $5176.50. Orientation and training will include sessions on: classroom management, leading physically active games, leading lessons in a learning garden, bike riding and safety skills, conflict resolution, basic tool and safety skills, leading nutrition eduction with students, and more!

Member Duties : Fit4Kids AmeriCorps promotes youth wellness through garden education, physical activity, and afterschool programs, supporting healthy habits for children in the Richmond region. Members will engage youth through hands-on service in school gardens, leading educational sessions, maintaining gardens, and more. They will teach bike riding and safety skills, lead physical activity sessions for students, and coach recess games that promote inclusive play and conflict resolution. Members will also deliver nutrition education through taste tests, cooking demos, and family engagement, while supporting healthy hydration campaigns and water bottle giveaways. Activities will take place at schools and community sites across Richmond, Henrico, Chesterfield, Hopewell, and Petersburg, with a focus on serving under-resourced communities. Members will be role models and wellness champions for children across the region.
