Academic Mentor

The Experience Matters program supports new and existing tutoring programs across Metropolitan Phoenix and Maricopa County, by providing Academic Mentors that will deliver an evidence-based reading program based upon The Science of Reading. The program was founded on evidence-based research, and encompasses the desire to provide caring and trained support to students suffering from the negative impacts of pandemic learning loss. The Science of Reading includes 5 Pillars of Reading Instruction: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension. This program has been developed to build students’ literacy outside the classroom, and highlights evidence-based curriculum used across the country. Our team is comprised of a Lead Academic Advisor (research-based), a Lead Engagement Officer (engagement and activity building), and Academic Mentors–who provide all on-site programming to students.
