Travis County Community Legal Services VISTA (Austin)
 
 
 
The City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA Program works with City departments and local nonprofits to build capacity, in order to provide resources and services to the Austin neighborhoods and communities that may otherwise be left behind by Austin's historic disparities and future growth. The AmeriCorps members serving with the City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA Program work in such diverse fields as education, health, waste reduction, and housing to cover the myriad ways poverty affects these neighborhoods and communities. This VISTA member will increase the capacity of Travis County through a marketing plan and volunteer system, helping low-income individuals out of poverty by affordably improving their chances to stay out of the justice system.

Member Duties : Plan and organize a community outreach strategy and calendar of engagement events with input from staff. Develop and implement strategies for recruiting and engaging volunteers, student interns, and community advocates for Community Legal Services and its divisions. Develop partnerships and pipelines with all ten (10) Texas law schools, criminal justice reform groups, and community advocate organizations to improve Community Legal Services outreach and services. Assess current Community Legal Services marketing strategies and determine gaps in messaging, audience, and other factors. Research grant applications and fundraising efforts.
