TMA Coppin State Community & Environmental Engagement

This VISTA project builds capacity for the First-Year Experience (FYE) and Second-Year Experience (SYE) initiatives housed within the Eagle Achievement Center (EAC). The objective is to build systems and partnerships that enable the University to scale civic responsibility programming, deepen community service outcomes, and strengthen campus collaborations with community-based organizations. Specifically, the project will provide students with structured opportunities to participate in locally-based community environmental service projects. Introducing projects focused on enhancing and sustaining the local environment promotes student retention and degree completion by strengthening their engagement with their communities, strengthening their sense of belonging, and contributing to long-term health and well-being in surrounding neighborhoods. These activities directly align with learning and engagement outcomes embedded in both the FYE and SYE programs, benefiting not only Coppin students but also communities across West Baltimore and the state of Maryland.
