*Actual Start Date TBD The Eastern Plains Economic Development Corporation (EPEDC) serves five counties in eastern Montana—Carter, Dawson, Fallon, Prairie, and Wibaux—with offices in Glendive and Baker. Founded in 2006, EPEDC is a private nonprofit focused on strengthening rural economies through job creation, local investment, and common-sense planning. We help small towns access grant funding, grow local businesses, and adapt to shifting economic landscapes. Our region is built on hard work—from farming and ranching to energy and rail—and we’re committed to making sure those roots remain strong while creating new opportunities for the next generation. EPEDC is a federally recognized Economic Development District and a Certified Regional Development Corporation (CRDC), working closely with partners like Southeast Montana Economic Development Corporation (SEMDC). In the future we see promise in agritourism, advanced manufacturing, and new energies that complement our traditional industries. Montana’s Badlands are home to treasures like Makoshika and Medicine Rocks State Parks—natural assets that could help attract visitors and drive rural opportunity. This VISTA position is a chance to serve where it matters—helping local communities build a strong future that reflects their values, work ethic, and way of life.

Member Duties : The VISTA will help eastern Montana plan for long-term economic strength. Duties include researching agritourism, energy upgrades, and small-scale manufacturing opportunities; working with local schools and businesses to grow job training; and helping build partnerships with city, county, and state leaders. The member will draft a step-by-step strategy to support practical economic growth—one rooted in the land, history, and work ethic of eastern Montana. This is a boots-on-the-ground opportunity for someone who believes in rural America and wants to help it thrive.
