WSU AmeriCorps-Wichita Public Library Summer Reading Program
 
 
 
AmeriCorps The Wichita Public Library is seeking seven enthusiastic AmeriCorps Members to assist for 10 weeks with the library’s Summer Reading Program for children and families. Each member will be assigned to a specific library location, including the Advanced Learning Library, Walters, Angelou, or Westlink Branch Libraries, and the Book Bus. Members will work directly with librarians and staff to promote literacy, engage the community, and help children and families participate in the library’s Summer Reading Program. Each position will focus on supporting program registration, outreach, literacy events, and assisting families in completing the program. AmeriCorps Members receive a modest living stipend and education award for their service.

Member Duties : Assist with outreach visits to schools, community centers, and local organizations to promote the summer reading program. Coordinate the registration process for the Summer Reading Program and assist with the distribution of prizes. Maintain accurate records of participant registrations. Assist librarians with the planning and execution of children’s literacy programs, including story times, educational activities, and reading groups tailored to their location’s needs. Assist families in finding materials, suggest books, and encourage participation Actively engage with children and families to encourage completion At the Advanced Learning Library: Support a variety of large-scale events and outreach initiatives, program registration and customer service, and data tracking. With the Book Bus: Support the Book Bus, a mobile library service, by visiting neighborhoods, schools, and community events to promote the program, assist with registration, and distribute prizes.
