Program Support Member - Higher Achievement 2025-2026

Higher Achievement is a direct service organization in Washington, DC, serving middle school students that live and attend schools in communities that have historically been under-resourced. Our afterschool program works to bridge the opportunity gap during these critical middle school years, helping scholars to the achieve short-term goals in middle school – like improved grades and increased attendance – that lead to long-term successes in high school and beyond. Higher Achievement is unique in the DC afterschool community in that we focus our program on helping scholars and families navigate the DC high school landscape, which is application-based and competitive. However not all schools, families, or communities have the capacity to support middle school students through the competitive process: Higher Achievement steps in as early as 5th grade to support our communities in accessing the high school opportunities that keep scholars on the path to college or other postsecondary opportunities. Key components to our program are homework support, electives, field trips, and high school readiness mentoring. We combine academically focused programming with engaging, hands-on learning opportunities to offer students an afterschool program that enriches, challenges, and nurtures through the power of high expectations matched with high support. Our program’s Core Competencies that guide our work are scholar centricity, voice and inclusion, the power of community, and striving for greatness.
