Stewards VISTA: Navajo County Coal Communities Y1

*Actual Start Date TBD We are the Northern Arizona BRECC (building resilient economies in coal communities) comprised of 3 County's Economic Development professionals, 3 utility partners and 5 local municipalities, 2 universities and 3 workforce training organizations. We have been developing our plan for the last 2 years as part of the NACO BRECC cohort and have this plan completed as a region. We are a large geographic area that is very rural, including multiple Native American tribes. We are located in Northeastern Arizona with our lead location being Holbrook Arizona. We are actively engaged with multiple federal funding partners for many planning projects. This diverse economic development works requires an Americorps Vista teammate that enjoys outdoor recreational activities and engaging with rural residents. A great snap shot of our communities with videos is on www.realaz.org.

Member Duties : Our VISTA teammate will be expected to develop meaningful relationships with our coal community leaders. As trust is being established our teammate will be mapping out the multiple projects already being applied for across our region that directly tie to our BRECC plan. While doing the mapping they will be able to integrate themselves into the community project implementation efforts. There will be many communities asking for their support so there will be no shortage of opportunities to engage directly with coal community projects. The key will be acting in a "consultation type way." In summary the work would begin with relationship building, project or asset mapping, and then become project consulting. It seems simple but our rural communities are not fast movers, but they do have work ethic and pride in their communities, our team helps them to keep moving.
