*MCVP – Missoula Human Resource Council Weatherization VISTA

The goal of this project is to increase the number of households served by the low-income weatherization program at District XI Human Resource Center by increasing the efficiency of the program, resulting in more low-income homes reducing their energy burden. Based on a community needs assessment report from 2022, Missoula, Mineral, and Ravalli counties experienced an increase in the number of residents experiencing poverty. The median household income for families in the Human Resource Council’s (HRC) service area falls below the state of Montana and US household median income in all three counties. Every year, the HRC serves about 8,300 low-income individuals, but there are many who qualify for services who may not know about the services the HRC offers. The weatherization program impacts low-income individuals by making home improvements that help conserve energy and make sure homes are healthy and safe. Weatherization services often decrease medical bills, reduce energy burdens, and increase quality of life. This VISTA project will move low-income residents of Missoula, Mineral, and Ravalli County out of poverty by developing social media outreach programs and creating more efficient internal procedures, resulting in an increase in the number of homes benefitting from the Weatherization program. Located in Missoula, MT!
