PCCE- Mental Health Association Rochester VISTA

The mission of Partners for Suicide Prevention Coalition is to promote awareness and use of resources for all people of Monroe County to build hope and resilience. Partners for Suicide Prevention Coalition restarted January 2024. Rochester, NY (within Monroe County) has one of the highest rates of poverty and extreme poverty (second in the nation compared to other sizable cities). Nearly one third of the population live below the poverty line with half of these individuals living below the extreme poverty level. Suicide impacts individuals of all ages, race/ethnicity, gender, socio-economic status, educational history and social circles. While there are suicide prevention resources, there is no designated person/resource to coordinate these efforts in our community. St. John Fisher University and Partners for Suicide Prevention/Mental Health Association of Rochester are collaborating to support the creation of a coordinator in Monroe County as of June 2025. The coordinator will be hired/managed by Mental Health Association of Rochester for at least one year and up to three years. These activities will be provided across Monroe County as well as on the St. John Fisher University campus.
