MCVP – Vocational Rehab Employment Transition Services VISTA
 
 
 
The goal of this VISTA project is to help Montana students with disabilities have greater economic opportunities by accessing high-quality Pre-Employment Transition Services, enabling them to gain meaningful employment, achieve independence, and rise above poverty. People with disabilities are more likely to be in poverty than those without disabilities. According to the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research (NiDILRR), in 2022 25.9% of people with disabilities were living in poverty. One of the factors that contributes to this condition is that individuals with disabilities are often unemployed. According to the US Labor Bureau of Statistics, in 2023 only 22.5 percent of people with a disability were employed. Montana Vocational Rehabilitation and Blind Services agency collaborates with high schools statewide to deliver Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) to students with disabilities. Pre-ETS helps students gain essential skills that enable them to gain meaningful employment, achieve independence, and rise above poverty. This VISTA project will move individuals with disabilities out of poverty by ensuring that students with disabilities receive high-quality Pre-Employment Transition Services resulting in employment that offers a living wage and fosters independence. Member Duties : The VISTA will develop Montana-specific training materials and a strategic implementation plan for the Pre-Employment Transition Readiness program, develop relationships with Montana schools and implement training plan to school staff, and disburse, collect, and analyze program surveys to school staff and identify areas for development in the program.
