Stewards VISTA: WCU - WARM Year 1

The Western Alliance for Reclamation Management’s mission is to educate and prepare the next generation of professionals for reclamation careers in the mineral industries in the US West. WARM builds a future workforce in mine reclamation by providing students with on-the-ground, real-world experience in site assessment, monitoring, and stakeholder engagement. WARM’s vision is for students to hone valuable job skills in reclamation projects at mine sites across the US West while building collaborative partnerships that will serve them throughout their careers. WARM is a 501(c)3 non-profit focused on sustainable solutions for the mineral extraction industries for energy transition and other goals, while also working to increase environmental stewardship of waterways, habitats, and recreation areas of the US West impacted by Abandoned Mine Lands. By increasing the career force that will engage in reclaiming these lands, WARM fills a gap of needed professionals to restore ecosystems, create new economic opportunities, and support local communities, contributing to long-term anti-poverty efforts. WARM is building capacity to expand student scholarship and fellowship opportunities, plus training, curriculum, and networking throughout the US West. The WARM Executive Director is currently a shared position with the Clark Family School of Environment and Sustainability’s Masters in Environmental Management (MEM) program, housed at Western Colorado University in Gunnison, Colorado.
