Community Engagement Specialist
 
 
 
The Community Engagement Specialist will play a key role in improving how the City of Durham gathers, analyzes, and applies community feedback. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys research and data analysis, working with under-resourced communities, and supporting teams in making informed decisions. The City of Durham’s Community Engagement Team is committed to ensuring all communities have a meaningful role in shaping policies and decisions that impact their lives. The team strengthens partnerships, builds community capacity for participation, and promotes engagement in City decision-making processes. In this role, you will assist in research, data collection, and analysis, working with City staff to improve engagement practices and develop innovative engagement tools and materials. You will also support evaluations of engagement efforts to improve outreach. This role offers hands-on experience in engagement strategies, research, data analysis, training, and project management. Member Duties : As a Community Engagement Specialist, you will help improve how the City of Durham gathers and uses community feedback. Your work will focus on supporting research, data collection, and engagement strategies to strengthen outreach efforts. You’ll help build and improve data collection tools, such as surveys, conversation guides, and other community feedback methods. You’ll support the use of a database system to track engagement and help create easy-to-understand tools, training materials, and outreach strategies. Additionally, you’ll contribute to training sessions for City staff and community members on engagement best practices and help identify barriers to participation in engagement and funding opportunities. This role also involves collaborating with staff to develop creative solutions that improve how the City listens to and responds to residents.
