Stewards VISTA: Grow Ohio Valley Y1

Grow Ohio Valley was founded in 2014 out of an afterschool gardening program. Our mission is to increase the region's availability of and access to locally grown foods and to teach the community about healthy food and how they can grow their own food. Grow Ohio Valley's four urban farm sites, while growing food for the community, are also green spaces and outdoor education places that have beautified the urban landscape. We founded the Public Market in 2019, a year-round farmer's market and grocery store that provides agricultural producers with a consistent market and provides the community with access to local products. The Public Market funds a 50% discount for all food stamps transactions, providing a huge benefit to an underserved population. Grow Ohio Valley provides youth with afterschool education centered on healthy food literacy. Grow Ohio Valley is an urban farming non-profit supporting a local food system and making fresh, locally grown produce more accessible to our community. We grow food on four urban farm sites and provide youth with healthy food education and experiences. Grow Ohio Valley founded and operates the Public Market, a year-round farmer's market and grocery store in Downtown Wheeling, eliminating five food deserts and serving an at-risk community through funding the SNAP Stretch program, giving all food stamps transactions a 50% discount. A VISTA would want to serve with Grow Ohio Valley to support our mission in increasing the region's availability of and access to locally grown produce that supports a local food economy and a healthy community.
