Nutrition Initiatives Program VISTA

Join thousands of AmeriCorps members in the VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) program who serve annually to alleviate poverty by helping local organizations expand capacity to make change. You will support El Pasoans Fighting Hunger (EPFH) to make sustainable change in the area. Through activities you will gain professional experience and leadership skills. This opportunity prepares you for a life of service in the nonprofit sector. The VISTA will build capacity by assisting EPFH Food Bank nutrition programs. Our mission is to combat the hunger crisis in our region by strategically procuring and distributing nutritious food through community partners. We currently serve over 177,000 food insecure people in three county areas. By joining you will be united in our mission to lift people and communities out of poverty. With AmeriCorps VISTA, you’ll address challenges where the need is the greatest. Serve in an office setting and help fight poverty while building your professional skills and earning additional benefits. Member will serve one full year with a living allowance which is paid biweekly. The VISTA will be eligible to receive other VISTA Benefits such as Health care, and an end of year service benefit. When member successfully completes a year of service they will be eligible to receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or the end of service cash stipend. The members serving with the VISTA program receive a variety of training and development opportunities before and during service. It includes orientation, on-site training, webinars, self-paced courses and tutorials. Member will receive one year of non-competitive eligibility for employment in the federal government. This special hiring status enables you to apply for federal jobs with the advantage of not having to go through the standard public competitive selection process. That means that you can be appointed to federal positions that may not be available to the general public.
