UACE Tucson Village Farm Afterschool Educator
 
 
 
Tucson Village Farm (TVF) is a seed-to-table program designed to reconnect young people to a healthy food system, teach them how to grow and prepare fresh food, and empower them to make healthy life choices. A program of the Pima County Cooperative Extension and the University of Arizona, TVF is a work-ing urban farm and healthy living center that fosters life and leadership skills in young people through agri-culture, culinary education, outdoor adventure opportunities, and community engagement. The vision of TVF is to cultivate healthy lifestyles, wellness, resilience, and sustainability in young people, empowering them to be contributing members of their communities. The afterschool educator position will have the member serving an educator role, assisting with the growth and development of a new 4-H afterschool farm program. This includes training and leading volunteers to teach youth, maintain our 8-acre farm, serving at our market to educate the public about farm. This position is ideal for someone who wants to work with elementary aged youth, offering homework assistance, STEM lessons, art exploration, agriculture education and physical movement activities. Serving at Tucson Village Farm and the 4-H Healthy Living Center a member has the opportunity to engage in a variety of tasks. A member serving here needs to want to work hard, enjoy interacting with volunteers of all ages, be flexible and have a willingness to be a team player. Members will receive training in arid land food production, youth development including the THRIVE Theory of youth development, STEM activities, art projects such as ceramics, blacksmithing, and screen printing plus, volunteer management, integrated pest management, orchard maintenance and growth, harvesting techniques, planting strategies and sea-sonality, and so much more!

Member Duties : Assist with leading and growing a new afterschool 4-H program on the farm. Assist with developing curriculum and recruitment of volunteers to assist with programming. Lead groups of volunteers both youth and adults in vegetable cultivation, STEM activities, art pro-jects and culinary skills. Educate kids and the public during various farm events and at our weekly market. members will need experience with youth & working with the public, and be able to work outside in a variety of weather conditions. ยท Assist with large events.
