2025 Story Tapestries After School VISTA

Story Tapestries is an arts services nonprofit that custom designs programs to promote accessibility in learning environments and uses the tools of the arts to simultaneously develop academic, arts, and social-emotional skill sets for learners of all ages and abilities. Story Tapestries work focuses on providing access to the arts for all ages, especially in communities experiencing disparities and economic challenges. Programs use the arts to help communities identify their strengths, transforming individuals and the community as a whole. The VISTA will build relationships with new and existing sites Story Tapestries works with and will work to coordinate existing in and out of school time programs, including after-school enrichment sessions and family and community engagement events. The VISTA will be provided with additional contacts at schools targeted for expansion and will work to build relationships to offer programs at new school sites. Goals of the project: Sustain and expand: the Montgomery County sites where we currently provide school programs; activities around professional development, parent and family workshops; and after school programming opportunities when students need support as school is not in session, Set up the framework to expand these programs in Prince George’s, Frederick and Anne Arundel County Schools, in collaboration with sites in identified counties where Story Tapestries already provides in-school programming on a regular basis Support program quality control including accessibility and responsiveness: Recruit and employ multilingual artists who have the skills to serve EML students and those with identified special needs. Encourage and increase parent and community engagement to support the youth in their community.
