United Way of Vermillion Marketing and Communications VISTA

United Way of Vermillion operates the Community Connection Center (CCC), a one-stop-shop for people in need in Clay County, South Dakota, a college community where nearly one third of the population lives in poverty. The VISTA will work with organizations within and outside of the CCC to The Marketing and Communications VISTA will work with the United Way of Vermillion to develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy that will increase awareness of local initiatives and resources. This VISTA will focus on social media management, website updates, and establishing strong communications with local businesses, the University of South Dakota, and members of the community, thereby strengthening United Way’s ability to reach and engage key clientele. This position affords the opportunity to make a measurable impact in the lives of those in need as a part of a passionate and energetic team. You will need excellent oral and written communication skills, some experience with graphic design and social media, the ability to work well with others and an interest in problem solving and innovative thinking. In addition to the AmeriCorps living allowance, health coverage, and educational award, the VISTA will be eligible for housing assistance up to $200 per month, training, and organization sponsored travel to other sites for research. The VISTA will have access to the services of the CCC, including the Vermillion Food Pantry and the weekly Welcome Table community meal. Vermillion, South Dakota is a small but welcoming community located on the bluffs of the Missouri National Recreational River, with ample access to hiking, fishing, and boating. The community itself is easily traversable by bicycle or on foot, and public transit is available. We are within two hours of several mid-sized airports and an AMTRAK station.

Member Duties : Develop and schedule social media content for various platforms to promote United Way’s programs, events, and fundraising initiatives; Monitor, analyze, and respond to social media engagement; Collaborate with the United Way of Vermillion and Community Connection Center team to update and maintain websites; create brochures, flyers, and other collateral materials for programs and events.
