Team UP - Working Lands Conservation Corps Member
 
 
 
Through collaborative service, Team UP AmeriCorps members develop their own professional skills and passions, expand effectiveness of southwest Colorado organizations, and ultimately support people to thrive. Team UP has been utilizing collective impact initiatives since 2015 to collaborate across sectors and promote communication towards common goals within rural Southwest Colorado communities. Team UP AmeriCorps members provide direct service to improve outcomes in Education, Economic Opportunity & Healthy Futures. AmeriCorps, often referred to as the “domestic Peace Corps,” provides opportunities to improve lives and foster civic engagement all across the country.

Member Duties : At the core of their workforce training, the WLCC members will participate in agricultural training activities at the Old Fort, including opportunities offered by the Farmer In Training (FIT) Program and the Ranching Apprenticeship (RA). WLCC members will design a schedule tailored to their interests that includes classroom education and hands-on training at the Old Fort 3-4 days/week from May through October, with partner orientation and training in April, and capstone projects in November. WLCC members will create curriculum specific to climate change adaptation for vegetable producers and present this material at the annual Farmer Training Convergence, as well as undertake research related to demonstrations at the Old Fort, projects that may include compost program development and demonstration, dryland crop demonstrations, and highlighting traditional Indigenous knowledge and techniques from the desert Southwest where appropriate
