Outreach and Engagement Specialist

Join Legal Aid of Western Michigan (LAWM) as a VISTA Outreach Specialist and play a key role in expanding access to vital legal services for underserved communities! This unique opportunity allows you to develop sustainable systems, strengthen community partnerships, and create outreach strategies that improve equity for rural and Limited English Proficient (LEP) populations in Muskegon, Newaygo, and Oceana Counties. In this role, you will assess outreach gaps, analyze referral pathways, and work closely with nonprofit, government, and faith-based organizations to strengthen connections between Legal Aid and the communities it serves. By developing targeted campaigns and resources, you will ensure low-income residents have the information and access they need to address critical civil legal challenges. You will start by gaining an understanding of Legal Aid’s client intake processes and identifying barriers that prevent eligible individuals from accessing services. Collaborating with stakeholders, you’ll design and implement outreach strategies that improve referral pathways and increase awareness of available legal resources. Through events, community engagement, and tailored educational materials, you’ll build trust with underserved populations and create frameworks that can be sustained long after your service term ends. Your work will culminate in the development of a comprehensive, replicable outreach guidebook, ensuring Legal Aid’s outreach efforts continue to grow and evolve. By documenting successful strategies, tools, and lessons learned, you will create a lasting resource for expanding outreach across all 17 counties in Legal Aid’s service area. Your work will culminate in a replicable outreach guide, ensuring long-term impact across the organization’s service areas.
