Our VISTA project is to build capacity through volunteer engagement and program improvement tools to achieve diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice for low-income individuals and communities. The project has three focus areas: social service delivery, master planning, and student engagement. Social Service Delivery The Campus District neighborhood is the social service hub for Downtown Cleveland and is home to the two largest homeless shelters in the state of Ohio. The VISTA will be responsible for: 1) Compiling background information on the social service delivery network in the Campus District. 2) Collaborating with social service providers in the Campus District to create strategies to address immediate needs. 3) Collaborating with social service providers in the Campus District to create a long-term plan for social service sustainability. Master Planning Master planning is key to Campus District’s goal of reconnecting historically disenfranchised residents to the resources of Downtown Cleveland. The VISTA will be responsible for: 1) Compiling background information on redlining, systemic racism, and the existing Innerbelt in Cleveland. 2) Helping employ and engage urban planning students from CSU in designing bridges over the Innerbelt. 3) Developing a long-term plan for funding the project in partnership with CSU, the Cleveland Foundation, ODOT, and other stakeholders. Student Engagement Students make up a crucial part of Campus District’s population. The VISTA will be responsible for: 1) Developing a relationship with professors and student organizations at CSU and Tri-C to identify classes and programs to recruit student workers. 2) Creating job descriptions that can be utilized every semester to continue the program. 3) Developing a long-term plan for funding the project in partnership with CSU, Tri-C, the Cleveland Foundation, and other stakeholders.

Member Duties : The VISTA Position during its year of service will: 1) Examine and develop a use plan for the social service system in the Campus District neighborhood. 2) Develop a living master plan document that includes a plan to redesign the bridges over the Innerbelt. 3) Develop a “living laboratory” to employ students from Cleveland State University and Cuyahoga Community College’s Metro Campus. 4) Outsource the “living laboratory” to other community development corporations throughout Cleveland. Qualifications 1) Excitement for community engaged programming. 2) Excellent written and visual communication skills. 3) Strong planning and organizational skills and the ability to think strategically. 4) Self-motivation and an ability to work toward objectives and work independently.
