Village of Somerset

The VISTA Member project is to support the Somerset Builder’s Club (SBC) and lay the foundations for the Somerset Community Kitchen. The mission of the SBC is to provide the community with a multifaceted, engaging space where new trade skills can be explored and mastered to be marketed for a livable wage. The SBC emphasizes access to training and educational opportunities including single classes and short-term certification programs. Through the Hocking, Athens, Perry County Action Program (HAPCAP) the SBC is launching a full curriculum of courses to serve the community and its workforce development initiatives. The HAPCAP Programming consists of courses which include, but are not limited to, CNC machining, 3D printing, computer programming, and laser cutting/etching. Entrepreneurial concepts are embedded throughout. A VISTA Member will help strengthen the capacity of the SBC by engaging with the community to drive learning and employment opportunities. In addition, a VISTA Member would aid the SBC in alleviating food insecurities in the community through the development of a community kitchen.
