Economic and Community Development Institute (ECDI)

HYBRID VISTA Position ECDI offers multiple business development and incubation programs in cities across Ohio. These offer workshops, training series, mentors, networking events, and more for start-up and growth-stage entrepreneurs. Programs are developed to provide general business and industry-specific assistance, so the needs of every client are met. The ECDI VISTA will work with program leads across Ohio, helping them develop new resources and programs for their clients. Activities include: 1) Developing a statewide volunteer network of professionals who will provide mentorship and coaching to clients in their area of expertise. Develop a process to connect volunteers to clients in need across the state. 2) Recruiting lawyers to run quarterly legal clinics in four ECDI markets. The project will provide clients who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford it with free legal assistance. 3) Work with ECDI’s Marketing and Fundraising Teams to build out ECDI’s sponsorship arm, which will help support special events and series in markets across the state. Bringing in new sponsors will increase the programming available for clients. 4) Develop an impact analysis of a multi-year grant project to determine next steps for the organization once the program ends. 5) Develop two workshops for staff working on the multi-year project. Clients participating in the program have not always taken full advantage of the program due to limited capacity using some online platforms. Help develop two workshop outlines that will teach clients how to utilize the platforms. The VISTA will work closely with staff across multiple departments to implement their activities. The VISTA will have the opportunity to collaborate on programming, lead initiatives, and bring fresh ideas to the organization.

Member Duties : The VISTA’s work will be broken up into 3 phases for each activity- Research, Implementation, and Handoff. Research: The VISTA will learn about each program and service and attend the workshops/orientation sessions to get a better understanding of what is offered. They will review program data and client surveys and learn about current funding sources from staff. They will also perform market research, learning about companies and individuals who may be recruited or interested in sponsorship. With their supervisor, the VISTA will develop a detailed action plan to guide their implementation. During implementation, the VISTA will help to recruit volunteers, will work with staff to coordinate events and programs, and will send out any additional client surveys needed for program analysis. They will also write up the outlines for the two workshops. In phase three, they will develop written processes and onboard program staff. They will also write their analysis of the multi-year program.
