Dalton State College, located in Northwest Georgia, transforms lives through education and community engagement. Focused on serving diverse populations, including first-generation and low-income students, Dalton State fosters economic stability, addresses food insecurity, and raises awareness about substance abuse prevention. Through the AmeriCorps VISTA program, we seek motivated individuals to build sustainable solutions to these challenges. As a VISTA member, you’ll collaborate with campus and community partners to design and implement impactful programs. Activities include developing financial literacy curriculums, creating awareness campaigns, and establishing peer-led support groups. Your efforts will empower students and community members to thrive. Located in Dalton, the “Carpet Capital of the World,” the area offers a vibrant community and outdoor recreation in the Appalachian foothills. Member Duties : AmeriCorps member will address substance abuse awareness and prevention at Dalton State College and in the local community. They will design and implement educational workshops, develop and execute campus-wide awareness campaigns, and establish peer-led support structures. Activities include creating culturally relevant and evidence-based workshop content, training facilitators, and producing reusable materials. Members will engage stakeholders, develop promotional strategies, and form partnerships with community organizations to amplify efforts. They will also evaluate program outcomes, document findings, and create sustainability tools, ensuring the long-term impact of these initiatives. Additionally, the VISTA member will contribute to national service events and recruit volunteers to enhance the project’s capacity.
