Richwood Economic Development Coordinator VISTA

In 2023, a team of community volunteers in Richwood, “The Richwood Dreamers,” participated in the Building Resilient Economies in Coal Communities (BRECC) Action Challenge with the support of The West Virginia Community Development Hub and Richwood Scientific, a nonprofit. Through this program, the team prepared an Economic Diversification Plan for Richwood, which centers on three economic diversification pathways: 1) Downtown Revitalization & Housing, 2) Arts & Culture, and 3) Outdoor Recreation. This VISTA project is focused on reducing poverty by implementing key initiatives associated with these pathways which are aimed at increasing economic opportunity for Richwood residents. Expanding the capacity of the already strong volunteer team, this VISTA position will provide assistance with marketing, community engagement, partner outreach, project management and fundraising for all three main pillars of the economic diversification plan. Also, this position will support specific projects related to downtown revitalization, namely the G.C. Murphy Building and Milltown Grade School projects. This position is an opportunity to make a difference in a welcoming place that is poised on the edge of progress.
