The Natural Resources Crew Member plays a vital role in the management and stewardship of natural resources within Polk County Conservation’s parks and greenspaces. Working under the direction of the Natural Resources Crew Leader and full time staff, the Crew Member participates in a wide range of natural resource projects aimed at enhancing and maintaining the ecological health and biodiversity of county-owned lands. The Half Time Natural Resource Crew members will serve with Polk County Conservation as part of the Polk County Conservation AmeriCorps Program. AmeriCorps members develop skills that build a strong, leadership-packed résumé, earn a living stipend $10,800 and receive a Segal Education Award upon completion $3,697.50 to pay for higher education or qualified student loans. These positions are three-quarter time members who will serve a minimum of 900 hours over 25 weeks, working approximately 38 hours per week.

Member Duties : Essential Functions: • Assist in identifying and removing invasive plant species using appropriate techniques and tools. • Participate in the establishment and maintenance of pollinator gardens to support local pollinator populations. • Collect native prairie seeds for restoration and reseeding projects. • Assist in conducting prescribed burns to maintain healthy ecosystems and reduce fire hazards. • Support forestry management efforts by thinning, pruning, and clearing vegetation to improve timber stand health. • Implement erosion control measures such as installing erosion blankets, mulching and planting vegetation. • Assist with tree planting projects • Assist with water quality monitoring • Perform general land management tasks including mowing, trail maintenance and infrastructure upkeep.
