*UG Urban Design and GIS Specialist

The Unified Government has committed to civic innovation, job creation, economic development, and the health of Wyandotte County residents - and our members are contributing in significant ways! One of the most critical functions of the Planning and Urban Design Department is to facilitate conversations both internally and externally in a way that brings stakeholders together around a common purpose. The success of this task in large part depends on the Department’s ability through various verbal and non-verbal platforms to clearly communicate these ideas to decision-makers, stakeholders and the general public. In an increasingly visual and digital world, how we tell these stories, and the tools that we use to do so has a direct correlation to public participation, community buy-in and ultimately the effectiveness of our very work. The Department is seeking an AmeriCorps VISTA to support this critical part of our mission, communications, outreach and engagement for our many planning and urban design initiatives across the community.

Member Duties : Support Advance & Current Planning, Ordinance Studies and Zoning Enforcement projects across the city that seek to develop actionable, equitable and inclusive strategies to improve the quality of life, prosperity and sustainability of the broader community. The success of this task in large part depends on the Department’s ability through various verbal and non-verbal platforms to clearly communicate these ideas to decision-makers, stakeholders and the public. In an increasingly visual and digital world, how stories are told, and the tools that we use has a direct correlation to public participation, community buy-in and ultimately the effectiveness of our very work. The member will support our mission, communications, outreach and engagement for our initiatives across the community.
