Arts of Life Volunteer Specialist, VISTA member

Founded in 2000 on Chicago’s near west side in collaboration with local Chicago artists. Arts of Life became Chicago’s first alternative day program for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities that focused exclusively on artistic vocational opportunities. Arts of Life is guided by a progressive vision to put inclusivity and creativity first in support of adult artists with developmental and intellectual disabilities. The defining hallmark of our program is our dedication to a culture of collective decision-making, which ensures that we are all proactive members of a shared artistic community with a voice in every aspect of our studio programming. Above all, we strive to create and maintain a community of equals who push each other to become the best version of themselves, including artists, staff, volunteers, interns, etc. Arts of Life serves 60+ artists through our two studio locations, community programs, and in-home weekly art support. Our North Shore Studio is located in the Northern suburb of Glenview and the Chicago Studio is located in the West Town neighborhood of Chicago. We are now supporting artists in the community in Woodlawn and Highland Park. Arts of Life has a unique exhibition space, Circle Contemporary, with year-round programming featuring guest curators and artists. Our studio artists’ work has been featured in prestigious venues throughout the world, including EXPO CHI, NADA MIA, The Outsider Art Fair NY, Art Fair TYO, Carl Hammer Gallery, John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, INTUIT Center for Outside Art, and Museum of Everything in London.
