ACC Housing Access VISTA

ECDC African Community Center (ACC) is a vital, community-based organization dedicated to assisting refugees in rebuilding safe, sustainable lives after escaping conflict and persecution. Founded in 2001, ACC provides comprehensive services to over 1,300 refugees annually. We are located in Denver, a thriving metro area known for its dynamic outdoor recreation, cultural diversity, and vibrant arts scene. This opportunity will allow you to immerse yourself in a growing city that offers professional opportunities and a rich cultural life. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to address one of Denver’s, and the nation’s, biggest crises - affordable housing for underserved communities.. As our VISTA, you will help us strengthen our capacity by developing and sustaining relationships with local property management companies, landlords, and housing authorities to secure safe, affordable housing for newly arrived refugees. This will entail outreaching to new landlords and educating them on the benefits of renting to refugees, as well as collaborating with other housing access organizations and coalitions to achieve mutual goals. You will also have the opportunity to work directly with refugees and strengthen your cross-cultural communication skills as you gather feedback from clients to better inform future housing prospects. You will work with a welcoming and diverse staff and participate in all staff development training. This position is slated to continue for one year. We are looking for someone who is flexible, motivated, organized, tech-savvy, able to demonstrate cross-cultural sensitivity and has excellent written and verbal communication skills. Bonus points for experience working with at-risk populations and competence in a language other than English! Visit our website (acc-den.org) or reach out to Kate for more information (kate@acc-den.org). The start date is flexible.

Member Duties : You will help ACC improve and expand our housing portfolio so that we may offer safe and affordable housing to Denver’s newest refugee residents. Working closely with our resettlement and development teams, you will familiarize yourself with our current housing portfolio, while expanding and increasing the portfolio by using your outreach skills creatively. This may include creating marketing materials on behalf of ACC, speaking to groups as to why housing refugees is a viable option, and researching yet-untapped housing sources. Your work will have a lasting impact on ACC and its clients, creating long-term relationships that support affordable housing for all!
