Affordable Housing Analyst

Major activities of the approved AmeriCorps VISTA Project include: (1) Conducting an inventory of existing platted lots in NNDC’s five (5) census tracts that identify each lot as residential, vacant/abandoned, or commercial with further details regarding the status of properties on a physical condition scale from 1 to 4, including parcels that could be considered slums or blighted. (2) The Affordable Housing Analyst will use this inventory to evaluate and guide current NNDC housing projects and programs and create new interventions that may be needed to address gaps in NNDC’s current housing services. This will involve working with both NNDC staff and neighborhood input. The inventory created as part of the VISTA project will also be used to show where housing infill and other investments have been made. In this way, physical measures of the neighborhood housing infrastructure (e.g., number of substandard rental units) or lack of development (e.g., number of vacant parcels) can be analyzed and correlated to NNDC’s programs. To the extent there is a positive correlation, it can be reported as overall improvement in neighborhood housing conditions and alleviation of poverty-stricken conditions for residents. (3) Coordinate and lead efforts with residents and stakeholders on the creation of new Neighborhood Plans for Ransom Place, Meridian Highland, Highland Vicinity, and Crown Hill neighborhoods. (4) Structure land use zoning reporting mechanisms for Near North neighborhoods. (5) The VISTA will be responsible for creating standard operating procedures (SOPs) and program manuals for NNDC’s affordable housing development programs to increase organizational capacity and long-term sustainability of services.
