ASN: Peninsula Cantera Project
 
 
 
The Compañía para el Desarrollo Integral de la Península de Cantera is proud to host a dedicated team of 12 AmeriCorps members who will serve the vibrant community of Cantera Peninsula in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This impactful initiative is designed to address critical needs across three key areas: Education Component: AmeriCorps members will engage with kinds, youth and families, local schools and educational programs to support student learning and development. By providing tutoring, mentoring, and enrichment activities, they aim to enhance educational outcomes and foster a positive learning environment for students. Healthy Futures Component: In this area, members will work to improve health and wellness within the community. This includes organizing health education workshops, facilitating access to healthcare services, and promoting healthy lifestyles through community outreach and support programs. Environmental Stewardship Component: AmeriCorps members will focus on environmental conservation and sustainability efforts. Their activities will involve community clean-up events, environmental education initiatives, and projects aimed at preserving and enhancing local natural resources.

Member Duties : The ASN: Peninsula of Cantera Project will involve twelve AmeriCorps members across three areas: Education (8 members), Healthy Futures (1 member), and Environmental Stewardship (3 members). Two members will serve 1200 hours each, while the rest will serve 900 hours. In Education, members will mentor, tutor, and train students to enhance academic development and life skills. In Healthy Futures, a member will focus on reducing childhood obesity through workshops and physical activities and organize community exercise sessions and identify recreational leaders. In Environmental Stewardship will raise environmental awareness, aid community preparedness and recovery, and help decide land use for the Cantera Peninsula Project. Potential actions include revitalizing barren areas, creating recreational spaces, gardening, and adding parking lots.
