This is an AmeriCorps national service position. It is contingent on funding and open until filled. The Mount Vernon School District is located in NW Washington. Approximately 60% of our students identify as Latine. More than 1 in 5 of our 7,000 students qualify as Migrant. Nearly 50% of our students speak a language other than English. Over 65% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Our aim is to help our students pursue excellence and life-long learning. We believe this will equip them for future success and happiness. Our strategic plan is focused on equity. This position will support disaster preparation through an equity lens. Our goal is to enhance safety and security for students, staff, and families who are most vulnerable. The member will focus on disaster preparedness training, communication, and coordination of services. They will take special care to target outreach to families experiencing poverty, families who are multilingual, families who are migrant, and families who are impacted by disability. We will begin rolling review of applications and interviews in early September. Monthly stipend amount: $2,276.

Member Duties : The Disaster Preparedness Coordinator will help our community members who are most vulnerable prepare for disaster and other emergencies. The will deliver disaster readiness training; provide information on how to secure emergency supplies; create communications materials for print, web, and social media platforms; set up trainings from external partner, including FEMA; help update safety plans and procedures and participate in regional tabletop exercises with a wide variety of partners; help develop student and family advisory teams.
