We are an AmeriCorps program designed to specifically identify predictors of student attrition and develop solutions to support the increase in retention and graduation rates of underrepresented and marginalized students at UMKC. We are looking for current UMKC students who would like to impact their community by serving as peer mentors to undergraduate UMKC students in the AACE and Avanzando programs offered by the Multicultural Student Affairs Office.

Member Duties : Peer Mentoring Be a positive Role Model Remain in good academic standing Be a liaison between scholars and staff Check-in with assigned scholars Assist in goal setting, encourage scholar involvement, and be a resource for scholars Express willingness to help. Aid scholars to take initiative in solving their own issues/ asking questions Send Outreach Communication to unresponsive scholars Organize meetings/gatherings for scholars Attend events with scholars Manage a GroupMe (or other agreed-upon outlet) Share information about upcoming events Programming Assist in the planning and execution of events targeted toward scholar programs Attend assigned events as schedule allows Create content for their assigned Scholar Program’s Social Media Accounts and RooGroups Assist in scholar-tracking efforts Assist in program evaluation efforts
