PRI Health Corps
 
 
 
Pamlico Rose Institute was awarded a Public Health AmeriCorps grant to expand our efforts to help counter the adverse impact of COVID-19 on food insecurity in under resourced people in our area. PRI Health Corps (PRI HC) members bring a farm to fork approach. In year one & two (2022-2023, 2023-2024), PRI HC built three wellness gardens, and expanded an existing garden, producing a summer harvest that went to in need individual and families. In addition, PRI HC designed on on-line "Gardening to Wellness" course and designed and instructed a 3rd grade gardening class at a local elementary school. Year three, 2024-2025, will continue all garden operations, offering online courses, and expanding instruction to other elementary schools. Not only do the gardens feed and nourish these communities with food and nutrition education, they will also allow for the growth and development of the PRI Health Corps members, who have their own unique journeys of growth and development!

Member Duties : Depending on season, garden activities will vary and include construction, preparation, planting, garden maintaining and harvesting. Members will also help develop and deliver a variety of online and face to face gardening curriculum as well as promote the benefits of wellness gardens to the communities where gardens are located.
