AmeriCorps Community Training for Overdose Rescue (ACT)

The AmeriCorps Community Training for Overdose Rescue (ACT) program is currently recruiting new Overdose Rescue Trainers for our Winter 2025 cohort. ACT is an AmeriCorps service program and part of Wayne State University's Center for Urban Studies. ACT aims to reduce opioid-overdose deaths in Metro Detroit through education efforts, mainly by hosting overdose first-aid trainings for the public where participants learn how to recognize an opioid overdose, use Narcan nasal spray (a medicine that can reverse opioid overdose and is administered with an easy-to-use nasal spray device) and give CPR. This is a 6-month, 20 hr/week paid service experience. As part of our program, you can expect to: Gain hands-on health education experience Build skills for their future Network with public health groups and organizations Serve on a diverse, energetic team, earn a living allowance of $5,850 distributed evenly throughout their term, receive an education award of $1,956 when they successfully complete their term. ACT is a rewarding opportunity for anyone who wants to make a difference. ACT welcomes candidates of all backgrounds, and we provide extensive training and professional development for incoming members. ACT is a hybrid program. You should expect to complete tasks in both virtual and in-person settings, with the majority of your hours taking place in person. This means at least 8 hours served in-person each week, either at CUS offices or in the community. Most service activities will take place within the hours of 10am and 3:30pm, M-Th. The priority deadline to apply is September 11. While priority will be given to applicants who apply by then, we will accept applications through October 9. Applicants must be 18 years or older, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and be a US citizen or permanent resident. Anyone interested can apply at www.stopoverdosedeaths.org.
